Diamonds with the ‘X-Factor’ without the X-Factor price tag

2 ct Cheryl Cole Engagement Ring I don’t often keep up with celebrity gossip but unless you’ve been in a vacuum for the last few weeks, there can’t be many who haven’t heard about the secret marriage of Cheryl Cole to Jean Fernandez-Versini.

News about the exclusive Mustique wedding ceremony and the rather pricey engagement and wedding rings have been posted all over the internet with guesses of around £300,000 for the beautiful rings.

Cheryl’s engagement ring is a 5 carat emerald cut diamond, flanked by two trapezium cut diamonds set in platinum and rumour has it it’s estimated value is around £275,000. It is perfectly accompanied by a Channel set full eternity ring wedding band, again in platinum, worth around £15,000.

I know what you’re thinking – are diamonds worth the sometimes huge price-tag?

Well, often yes. The rule of thumb with a diamond is, the larger the carat weight the rarer the stone – and of course the rarer the stone the more expensive the diamond becomes.

Some diamonds are so expensive they’re literally priceless

Take for instance the Cullinan diamond which was the largest diamond ever discovered.

The uncut stone weighed in at 3,106 carats (621.2 grams or 1.37 pounds) it was 10.5 cm along its longest length (twice the size of any other diamond ever found) and it’s remarkable because it is near flawless internally.

The diamond was fashioned into 9 large diamonds and 96 brilliants. The largest stone, also known as the 'Great Star of Africa', is mounted in the scepter of the British Crown Jewels, and now resides in the Tower of London.

Not many of us have a royal purse or an x-factor budget to buy our betrothed the perfect ring and therefore we need to be more discerning when choosing the perfect statement of love – that’s where Walsh Bros can help. three rings We currently have in stock this beautiful 2 carat certificated diamond platinum mounted ring which is far more reasonably priced than Cheryl’s at £16,000 (shown left) If you fancy making more of a statement and want your jewellery to have it’s own history then this Diamond Three Stone ring is for you. The beautiful Victorian cut diamonds, including a jaw-dropping 2.00+ carat centre, with a total diamond weight of over 4.00 carats and set in an original 18ct yellow gold Carved Head mount it is truly something to behold and priced at £16,500 (middle).

Or if you’re wanting a wedding in Mustique and therefore need to save your pennies, this Diamond Channel Set Half Eternity Ring (shown right)  is 1.00 carat set in 18ct White Gold and far more affordably priced at £2,100.00.
